Ken --- YES, there are things you can do. NCO is a third party debt collector and they must abide by the Federal Laws for the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act & more. Let them call you and you use a tape recorder to tape the conversation. Tell them you are going to get a notepad for notes (which is all being taped) Get the collector's name, the Name of the Company, the name of the account they say you owe, the account number, the amount, also get their mailing address. If they push you saying you have to pay the $400 now or go to court, ask them if they are an attorney. Most likely they are not! If they are -- still no problem. Make sure you are ALWAY POLITE. Once they are done talking tell him/her you need some help on this & tell them you will call them back in a few days. Then contact Krohn & Moss at this office or other attoneys & let them hear the conversation. If what they say to you is true--NCO could face a lawsuit. Plus, the lawsuit could include “emotional stress” In many states, the tape recorded conversation is allowed. In others it is not, so you will need to seek legal services or go ProSe. However, in this case, I would let the attorney take care of it.
The other choice you can do is when they call you back tell them you need to talk to the head manager. Then say nicely “Sir, I would like you to listen to this”--- & play the tape (I’ve done it). Then tell them you have had it & you have found an attorney to take care of this problem. Demand no more phone calls & this case dropped. Say “Sir, I have had it. I am demanding no more phone calls or harassment from you, your employees, or your company. I also demand this account be deleted in full & from our credit report & a letter from your company saying this account is paid in full.” If not, I will let our attorneys take over & we will see you in court. “Then take them to court & sue them for harassment, emotional stress, violations of the FDCPA, & MORE. Make sure, when you talk to them – you use a tape recorder to record the conversation. That way there is no he said—she said.
For me, I have had done the above & the account was deleted in full & case dropped & I never went to court. However, do not back off. The proof is in the tape. Which is NOT Hearsay.

I had NCO calling our work up 5 times a day. If I was on the phone they would hold for hours. While they were on hold, they would call on one of the other lines. These people are not even calling from anywhere in the states. They are in India! Hard to understand.
Somehow they got my 85 year old mothers phone number in another state called her and harassed her!!
These people need to be put out of business. I will not talk to them and I will settle up with the credit card company. In the last three years our business has been down by three quarters. We used our cards to stay in business and have done our best to keep up with everything.
